Zoom Competitor, Google Meet, Is Now Adding 3 Million Users Per Day

Zoom Competitors: As we all know due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone has to maintain social distancing and self-quarantine. In this hard time, most of us are isolated from our friends and family. As it is not possible to visit their homes or meetup at any public place, people are now relying on video and voice calls.

Recently WhatsApp also increased the limit of participants in a group call from four to eight with increased security. WhatsApp parent company Facebook also announced to introduce a new tool- Messenger Room, the feature will work like Zoom and will allow up to 50 participants.

Video conferencing platforms are on a boost, services like Zoom and Google Meet are being used for education, meetings, socializing, and almost everything.

Now, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai recently announced that their Teleconferencing Service Google Meet is now adding about 3 million users per day. He also mentioned that there are about 100 million daily active participants in Google Meet.

Sundar Pichai announced this on the company’s first-quarter earnings call of 2020.

Zoom Competitors Earlier this month Google announced that they are getting more than 2 million new users connecting on the service every day. These figures point out that the teleconferencing service is on a 300 percent growth since January.

Google Meet comes together with Google’s G-suite, which is the company’s suite for email and productivity tools. Google Meet has been through several developments in the past few weeks to overthrow Zoom. Last week Google rolled out four new features including a Zoom-like tiled layout in case of video calls with more participants. Now Google meet can show up to 16 people at a time in a grid, earlier this was only up to 4 people. However, this is only the number of people you can see at one instance on your screen. Google meet could support up to 250 participants if you are on G-suite Enterprise.

Google also introduced a new low-light enhancement mode, to make sure mobile users get better videos even in poor lighting conditions. The new update also includes a more precise selection of what screen you share. You can now share a particular Firefox tab instead of that whole window while in screen share mode.

Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc. has reported that they earned $6.8 billion in profit on revenue of $41.2 billion for the first fiscal quarter of 2020. Google also mentioned that their cloud computing division earned $2.8 billion which is 55 percent growth from the first quarter of 2019.
